South Kingstown Public Library Teens

Teen Read Week Programs!

Teen Read Week (October 14-20) is finally here!

Hosted each year by the Young Adult Library Association (YALSA) and ALA, Teen Read Week encourages teens age 12-18 to read for the fun of it, as well as become aware of the many programs and services that the library offers. Just don’t be scared off by This year’s horror movie inspired theme, It Came From the Library!

Don’t miss celebrating Teen Read Week! We have a new book group starting this week, our Anime/Manga group is meeting, and there is still time to sign up for our Teen Read Week Read-A-Thon! Check out all the details below!

Teen Survival Book Club
Teens in grades 7 and up are invited Wed. October 17 at 3:30 p.m. to the all new Peace Dale Library Survival Book Club.

Rather than read a specific book every month, we’ll have a different topic each month. Read a book of your choice that fits the topic, then come share it!

Our first theme is “Can you survive…the supernatural?”
Come share your favorite book about the supernatural world—ghosts, vampires, werewolves, zombies…

This is a great chance to learn about new books you might be interested in!

We’ll be brainstorming suggestions for future themes!

Snacks will be served; registration not required!

Anime/Manga Club
Like manga and anime? Students in grades 7 and up are invited to the Anime/Manga Club! We meet twice a month on Fridays to watch anime episodes (currently, watch Fairy Tale!) as well as draw, discuss favorite manga series and other activities!

Our next meetings are 3:30-4:30 p.m. on October 19, November 2, and November 16 at the Peace Dale Library.

Help plan what we should watch and do at future meetings! Snacks will be served. No registration required.

“It Came From the Library”
Teen Read Week Read-A-Thon!
Teens in grades 7 and up are invited to the Teen Read Week Finale Read-a-thon, Saturday, October 20th, from 1:00-4:30 p.m.!

Bring a pillow, bring a favorite book, and come read for fun with us! Need a new book to read? We’ll have lots of suggestions. Browse our displays or visit out our book trailer station and learn about some of the library’s new books!

We will also announce the winner’s of the library’s Teen Choice Awards! From September 17 through October 12, teen at the library voted on what they liked! Find out what book wins the title of “Favorite Teen Book”; as well as what wins “Which book’s post apocalyptic world would you NOT want live in?” or “Which book has the best fictional sport or game?”

While reading is the focus, we’ll also have snacks, prizes, and art supplies for a Book Cover Redesign project.

Registration is required, please call 789-1555 ext. 105 for more info!
