South Kingstown Public Library Teens

Teen Read Week Teen Choice Awards

“It Came From the Library”
Teen Read Week October 14-20

To celebrate Teen Read Week, the South Kingstown Public Library is holding our own Teen Choice Awards! However, we don’t want to know just your favorite book. We want to know more:

What book should be made into a movie?
What book has the best cover?
What book has the best “bad guy”?

Between September 17 and October 12, visit any South Kingstown Public Library branch and fill out your ballot.

The teen choice winners will be announced on Saturday, October 20th at our Teen Read Week Read-a-Thon Celebration!

Calling Writers!

Are you in grades 9-12?

Do you like to write?

If you answered yes to both of those, then the Claudia Ann Seaman Awards for Young Writers may be for you!

The Claudia Ann Seaman Award for Young Writers was created by the Seaman family in memory of their daughter and sister, a young poet. The CAS Award acknowledges excellence in teen writing in poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction.

Students in grades 9-12 are invited to submit up to three works — either poems, stories, essays, or any combination (1,500-word limit for fiction and creative nonfiction). There is a cash prize of $200 for each genre, and winners will be published in the print and online versions of student run Polyphony H.S. literary magazine. Deadline for entries is April 15, 2011.

For more information, visit the Claudia Ann Seaman Awards page on the Polyphony H.S. website.

Good Luck and Happy Writing!
