This Week’s Teen Programs

Here’s what’s happening this week at the South Kingstown Public Library for teens entering Grades 7 and up:

  • Thursday, October 4th, 4-4:45 p.m. Peace Dale Library
  • 7th & 8th Grade Guys Read Book Group
  • The 7th & 8th Grade Guys Read Book Group is back! For our first meeting, we will be discussing Malice by Chris Wooding.

    Books are available in advance at the Peace Dale Library; new memebers are always welcome.

    We will also be choosing what books we will be reading for the rest of the fall meetings! Come and get your suggestions heard! Can’t make it to the meeting? Email any suggestions to teenlibrarianbrandi@yahoo.com. Help select the books for the rest of the fall meetings!

  • Friday, October 5th, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Peace Dale Library
  • The Anime/Manga Club
  • Like manga and anime? Students in grades 7 and up are invited to the Anime/Manga Club. We meet twice a month on Fridays to watch Fairy Tale, as well as draw, discuss favorite manga series and other activities!

    Our next meetings are 3:30-4:30 p.m. on October 19, and November 2.

    Help plan what we should watch and do at future meetings! Snacks will be served. No registration required.

  • Teen Read Week Teen Choice Awards
  • Teen Read Week is October 14-20! Voting is currently going on for the South Kingstown Public Library’s Teen Choice Awards!

    What book should be made into a movie?
    What book has the best cover?
    What book has the best “bad guy”?

    Through October 12, visit any South Kingstown Public Library branch and fill out your ballot.

    The teen choice winners will be announced on Saturday, October 20th at our Teen Read Week Read-a-Thon Celebration!

The 7th & 8th Grade Guys Read Book Club will be meeting on Thursday, February 2nd, from 4-4:45 p.m. to discuss Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve:

* In the distant future, when cities move about and consume smaller towns, a fifteen-year-old apprentice is pushed out of London by the man he most admires and must seek answers in the perilous Out-Country, aided by one girl and the memory of another.

The 7th & 8th Grade Guys Read Book Club will be meeting on January 5th from 4-4:45 p.m. at the Peace Dale Library to discuss I Am a Genius of Unspeakable Evil and I Want to Be Your Class President by Josh Leib:

* In Omaha, Nebraska, Oliver Watson has everyone convinced that he’s extremely stupid and lazy, but he’s actually a very wealthy, evil genius, and when he decides to run for seventh-grade class president, nothing will stand in his way.

7th & 8th Grade Guys Read Book Club

The 7th & 8th Grade Guys Read Book Club will be meeting on Thursday, December 1st from 4-4:45 p.m. to discuss Trash by Andy Mulligan.

  • In an unnamed Third World country, in the not-so-distant future, three “dumpsite boys” make a living picking through the mountains of garbage on the outskirts of a large city. One unlucky-lucky day, Raphael finds something very special and very mysterious. So mysterious that he decides to keep it, even when the city police offer a handsome reward for its return. That decision brings with it terrifying consequences, and soon the dumpsite boys must use all of their cunning and courage to stay ahead of their pursuers. It’s up to boys who have no education, no parents, no homes, and no money-to solve the mystery and right a terrible wrong.

    This month’s title for the 6th-8th Grade Guys Read Book Club is the 2012 Rhode Island Teen Book Award Nominee Borderline by Allan Stratton!

    Join us on Thursday, May 12th from 4-4:45 p.m. for lively discussion, activities and snacks. New members are always welcome; books are available in advance at the Peace Dale Library.

    The 6th-8th Grade Guys Read Book Club will be meeting on Thursday, April 7th from 4-4:45 p.m. This month we will be discussing the space themed graphic novels Laika by Nick Abadzis and T-Minus: The Race to the Moon by Jim Ottaviani. Read one or read them both, then join us for lively space games, snacks and discussion!
