Blackout Poetry

on April 1, 2014

April is National Poetry Month! To celebrate, the Peace Dale Library will be holding an on-going Blackout Poetry Project from April 7-April 30.

Not a poet? Not a problem, Blackout Poetry is easy, no poetry skills required. Take an old newspaper or page from an old book (make sure it’s not a library book!) and use a marker to blackout all the words you don’t need, leaving behind only the words to your poem.  You can make it as simple or intricate as you’d like!

Once you’ve made one, take a picture and send it to teenlibrarianbrandi@gmail.com, we’ll post your work on the library’s teen Tumblr (www.skplteens.tumblr.com).

Don’t have supplies at home to send in a poem? Stop by the Peace Dale Library, we’ll have pages and markers available for you. Create a poem, and drop it off at the reference desk if you’d like it added to our blog.
