Friday Spotlight: Animation!

on July 6, 2012

The Own the Night Teen Summer Program is well under way! Don’t forget, you can earn raffle tickets for reading, reviewing books, and attending programs! For all the details, check here.

And speaking of programs, the Peace Dale Library has the Rhode Island Museum of Science and Art coming next week. They’ll be doing a hands on program demonstrating the effects and illusions that color can have on animated videos. And the best part of their program? They bring all the materials and cameras and let you film your own video!

To get in the spirit of things, today’s Friday Spotlight highlights a few online tools that you can use to create online animated videos.

Animoto

Animoto lets you sign up for free and make unlimited 30 second videos. Select from their backgrounds and music, upload your own pictures from your computer or Facebook account and create slideshow style videos.

Draw A Stickman

Draw a Stick Man is just plain hilarious. Draw yourself a stick man. Or stick girl. Or, if it’s more your style, a stick robot. Then choose from two story lines and watch your creation come to life. At various points of the story, you will be prompted to add draw addition things to be incorporated into the animation. So funny. I promise. Just try it.
Xtranormal

Xtranormal lets you pick from a variety of animated characters. Pick your “actor” tell them what to say and how to move. I tried it out (very quickly). My video is a bit basic, but the possibilities are endless.

These are just a few of the video and animation tools out there. Don’t forget, join us and RI Museum of Science and Art next week, Wednesday, July 11th, from 2-3 p.m. for even more animation and video fun!
